In the original Red and Blue if you did a certain set of things you would encounter this glitch pokemon. It would screw things up in the game if you caught. But just encountering it would cause cool things to happen to whatever item you were carrying in the fifth(?) slot. It was somewhat famous during that time. Good stuff. Game Freak removed it when they released Yellow.

I figured that out, when you go to battle put Metapod as #1 and send him out then before the other pokemon attacks, switch it out with your strongest pokemon, then they both get 1/2 and 1/2:)
That's if you have the OG pokemon games, the new ones there's special items to let the pokemon hold onto to share the points.
