My parents are rather conservative and I think if I tried straightening my hair, they'd think I'm gay... I'm very into the scene but my hair is very closely cropped and I wanted to grow it out and straighten it... Will it be easy convincing them, and would it be worth my while in any case?

Just do it. Fuck what they think. If your just growing it out to straighten..do it. If it makes you happy, then it's definitely worth it. Don't try to convince them. Just. DO. It.
