Can someone else recommend CCleaner...? I'm just very scepticle of all these "performance increasing through cleaning the registry" type programs...

I use it, it's very reliable. Just ensure you read over what you are about to delete and just don't go trigger happy with the "delete all" button haha.
But it has more purposes than that, plus it increases the PC performance if you regularly use it along with defrag.

I would highly recommend CCleaner. I first started using it on my last computer and it was one of the first programs I downloaded onto this computer. THe FCleaner works just as well and is also free. I have not tried it out yet.

Lady, VLC is a pretty good video player. I had played with GIMP (which is free) before I downloaded Photoshop (sometimes free). If someone wanted a smaller, legally free, image program I would suggest GIMP.

This list needs an Instant Messaging list so here is a short list:

Trillian
Pidgin

I also have a list of audio and video that should be added:

dBpoweramp

Protected Music Converter Find this on a good torrent site. It will be truly free then.
Alive Video Converter

That is about all I have right now.

Yeah, Trillian is good, I use it, too. There's another one which I heard is good... Miranda?

PS:
And do we have an editor section already?
I remember hearing something called Phase 5 being good.

Mediacoder - best universal transcoder ever.
Dev-C++ - great IDE: even if it hasn't been developed for two years.
TVUPlayer - Internet TV from all over the world.
KompoZer - WYSIWYG editor.
BlueGriffon - no official release yet, but a promising looking WYSIWYG.
MusicBrainz Picard - cross-platform, community driver music tagging service. Very, very useful.
RawTherapee - the best camera raw program other than ACR.

Partitioning software....afraid not. I wouldn't do it using software like that anyway, way too risky.
