No one can be emo. Emo is a music genre. A person cannot be a music genre. Understand this. Here, on luv-emo.com we refer to emo as the music genre. I am guessing you are stupid ignorant and/or self-absorbed to understand this point. You have bought into the mass marketed idea of "emokids" and bands like MCR and Hawthorn Heights being "emo" as well. Oh and learn to fucking type properly. Oh and if I am to call myself a music genre I am Bluegrass. atleast u get what im talking about. She was making fun of you. Do you not get the point of sarcasm? |

No one can be emo. Emo is a music genre. A person cannot be a music genre. Understand this. Here, on luv-emo.com we refer to emo as the music genre. I am guessing you are stupid ignorant and/or self-absorbed to understand this point. You have bought into the mass marketed idea of "emokids" and bands like MCR and Hawthorn Heights being "emo" as well. Oh and learn to fucking type properly. Oh and if I am to call myself a music genre I am Bluegrass. Not that this is TOO on-topic, but I smell a noob-bash a-comming, so I figure it's as good a time as any to debate good ol' standard procedure. Why is it such a big deal to refer to people as emo? I can refer to people who listen to Metal as metalheads, and then there's punks, rockers, hippies, ect; sure, it doesn't work with every genre, some have names for fans that aren't just the genre(you don't call someone a rap, and most of the musicians prefer MC over "rapper"), but the point remains valid, it is far from strange to refer to people by their taste in music, because in a search for identity, most teenagers will shape themselves around their musical taste(other such options are gamers, sports, ect). I'm also not sold on the idea that the ones who began the Emotive Hardcore genre, or any of the fans, have the ability to tell idiots what to call themselves; if you want to call youself or someone else emo, most people wont care if it's true to the original musical genre, the stereotype will adopt a new definition of the word regardless of it's origional use(welcome to America, the butchers of language). Context, connotation, and cultural influence are more important than standardized definition; if you don't believe me, look at ANY racial slur or swear word, I promise you it's original meaning and usage are FAR from gone. Really, I'm pretty sure the whole purpose of the rule is to have an excuse to flame noobs, and because people are too overly sensitive about their own stereotype(and don't even bother to argue against this, because in the expiation of myself and those I confer with IRL(at least 4 other people over the course of the past 6 years, inclusive, many others to a lesser degree), those who can be described as "emo" or "scene" or whatever you prefer, are often the FIRST to bitch that they aren't, or to find some loophole. Even sluts are more accepting of their title.) Not that it's even really important anyway, but I will defend tooth and nail the fact that there is absolutely no point to whine that people can't be emo every third topic. Be a little more creative, even a Hitler/Nazi reference would take more effort to pull up than trying to race to see who can be the first to think they're cool by pointing out the obvious. |

Quoting you was simply an act of chronological convenience; there are thousands of others I could have quoted, so taking personal offense is quite egotistical on your part - Just because your being made an example of, doesn't actually mean your of importance, I'm sorry... Though, you do seem to provide more than sufficient fodder for my own vendetta here, in actually further proving my point; how hypocritical is it that you who here now claims to use the term Emo incorrectly(as defined by forum rules) will go out of their way to tell nubs not to do it, in some sick twisted game of "Do as I say, not as I do". Again, I really wouldn't bother mentioning it, if I didn't see the same thing every third thread. If every other new member(who actually posts) has to go through the same hazing of "lurk more, and no saying emo, gtfokillyourself", I can only assume there's probably some communication breakdown, or a problem in policy and generalized acceptance.

Actually quoting me I infer that you are reply directly to me, much like I quoted you here to let you know that I am directing this towards you. You knew what you were doing by quoting me. I've always used the word emo however I see it fit for the situation. I wasn't yelling at the person nor did I say GTFO, I was trying to get the person to learn that it isn't a good idea to actually label themselves as emo on this forum, otherwise other members will tell them to GTFO. I noticed that whilst you "bitch" about me saying emo and all that you made no comment on the person's inability to type properly. And vendetta? Please, you are almost as useless to this forum as all the mindless newbs that show up from time to time. The only difference is that whilst they type two or three sentences you like to type lots of fancy words in an attempt to prove something. Oh and I love the part about the hazing, not all members have gone through that. Most people don't show up and call themselves emo and fight back when told they are wrong. but anyways, you go ahead and post some fancy post and make yourself feel better. I am done with you and wash my hands of you. |

I noticed that whilst you "bitch" about me saying emo and all that you made no comment on the person's inability to type properly. Favorite part of the whole post. I don't complain enough. Lulz, life, lulz. And sorry if I type a little too good for you, maybe I'll try and dumb it down next time? Please, I could pull up any number of almost identical thread where a noob comes in all gung-ho with the word emo 7 times in their original post and receives the exact same treatment with a few variations on name. All I'm saying, is if you wanna eat the nooblets appart, bring some level of grace and creativity to the table; there's a reason Captain Obvious is listed along with Procrastination Man amoung crappy superheros. I do agree though, at this point I must digress to avoid getting too off topic. |

This Loved it, Bobby, I'd given up on the 'ol "The word Emo evolved, not the music" cause, but you really summed it up nicely. Hey, maybe we can turn this thread into a war over the current uses of the word 'emo' |

"you're just doing x to make yourself feel better"- A phrase often used to make one's self feel better about losing an argument. "Leaving" an argument- a last resort, an acknowledgement that one is in too deep, a desperate attempt to salvage some dignity. |

Sorry to ruin your fun but I leave arguments when I see that the argument would become a war of attrition. He and I would just go back and forth trying to prove the other one wrong and nothing productive would come out of it. Besides I stated my point there is no point in restating it over and over again. I come to this forum for fun and relaxation not to engage in pointless "wars" about the meaning of the word emo nor do I wish to continue to engage in such a discussion. This is not the first time nor will it be the last time that I state my point of view on a subject that then "leave" the argument. I made my point, he made his, we disagree, and since we disagree there is little hope of either of us convincing the other one that he is right/wrong. So, I stated my view and left. |
