The Great Mod Debate

The PittaMonster's Photo The PittaMonster 13 Dec 2009

I know this has been suggested countless times, but to avoid the doubling-up of names etc. why don't we just delete all members with a post-count under 100 who haven't made a post in six months?

Because that sounds like an awful lot of effort...

Eh apparently Nuk isn't keen on deleting members

So nobody here knows how to contact Nuk? What about Perpetuated?

What happened to Lady? Anyway, I think modding emo-corner is enough for me, so I'm flattered by all the mentions but I'm afraid I'll have to let you guys carry on without me.

Validation isn't to prevent usernames doubling up- LE doesn't actually have that many members, and running out of usernames is certainly not going to be a problem. In the grand scheme of things, there's really no point in deleting members.

the only answer is to strip the absentee mods of their status, and vote for new ones, let's have a vote.

for the good of the site ok

And when people are signing in every day with names like xxx$#!"#!DEPRESSED EMO!#!"#!xxx$, I don't think we should worry about that at all.

@Deagon. Then people would have to step up, as who want to become a mod.. And I don't think voting for that would be any good anyway. Letting the current mods, including Perpetuated take the decision would be the best for the forum.
As many of the voters would vote becouse they like the person better etc, they might have no idea if the person they vote for has what it takes.

Votes rarely produce good results, they descend into popularity contests and let's be honest, the majority won't vote for the person they feel would make the best mod, they'll vote for their friends, or whoever they think is 'hot', or someone who meets countless other criteria, rather than those that are necessary. I don't mean to shoot down your idea, I just have a personal beef with votes.

Personally, I think Bobbilytus Chopensatz or Enemy should be the next mod. They're sensible, capable, not easily offended, and give off that 'your pathetic disputes are below me' impression that's so necessary for moderating.

Hmm, I don't know about that, I think everyone should get the same treatment from mods, regardless of how long they've been here. I think perhaps it's the attitude of the members toward newbies that needs to change.

Edit: I do think though, that Matts and Lotskibob should be demodded, we had a similar situation at EC recently and many absentee mods were demoted, it is important for mods to be active.

I'd be for Bobby, if he'd sign on more often. I miss him :D

Bobby's awesome. And he'd probably sign in more often if he were a mod, at least I know I would.

13400 members compared with emo-corners 4260 members, it's just that this forum has less active members.

I think Enemy would be a pretty cool mod, but I'd be slightly worried about letting him have access to members email addresses...
Bobby would be good as well, he's just not very active which defeats the purpose. Sunshine would get my vote, he's stated that he doesn't want the job.

I don't think the mod thing is an issue now, but I was thinking about taking a break next May and June, and I might have to give up the mod job completely next September. Hopefully someone perfect for the job will crop up before then...

Hello... :)

Lol just kidding. I've been lurking throughout this forum for ages, even before I was a member. I think that Sunshine should definitely have a go at being a mod. No wait, what about Ryan? Isn't he a mod? His status says otherwise.

Ryan only mods the music forum. He certainly shouldn't mod anything else, he's already abused his power a few times.

We technically have had over 60,000 members sign up, according to member numbers on profiles. The member search doesn't tend to work too well, and I'm sure many members were deleted during the raids.

If you made Enemy a global mod as opposed to an admin, would he still be able to approve accounts? He wouldn't have access to email addresses then, as far as I know. Though I'm not exactly sure of the mechanisms of account approval, it's the one aspect of IP boards I've never tried out.

And DyingTolerance, I see, that really sucks. :)

bullshit to enemy, we need a calming influence, not an instigator of trouble and diversion,
