Considering much of the traffic on this website is scene kids discussing scene bands in the 'emo' or 'screamo' sections, getting flamed, and then leaving, why not have a 'Scene music' section? That way, the site will encourage kids who like scene music, and they'll be better, healthier discussions in that section. I've compiled a list of threads from the 'others' section that would be perfect for this section.
Motion City Soundtrack
Automatic Loveletter
Black Veil Brides
Alkaline Trio
Seconhand Serenade
All Time Low
Hawthorne Heights
Craig Owens
Never Shout Never
My Passion
My Chemical Romance
Bullet for my Valentine
Avenged Sevenfold
Matchbook Romance
Owl City
Bring Me the Horizon*
Brand New
H.I.M
Tokio Hotel*
Madina Lake
Red Jumpsuit Apparatus*
New Found Glory
Chiodos
Fall Out Boy
Paramore
The Used
Drop Dead, Gorgeous
Motionless in White
The Rocket Summer
Dr. Acula
Hey Monday
Panic! At the Disco
Alesana
Scary Kids Scaring Kids
Escape the Fate
Kill Hannah
From First to Last
Bless the Fall
We the Kings
Eyes Set to Kill
Atreyu
Fightstar
Those bands with the asterisk (*) have more than one thread, and would need to be combined before being put in the 'Scene' section.
So what say you?

Sounds good to me, but I want to hear what Ryan thinks first.

Ryan? He'll just say all the bands suck and that they belong in the slander section. Really, outside of true emo and screamo, Ryan's music likes are, well, meh.
I would support this though. Really. That way we can at least keep some of the people and then help steer them towards the other music threads. I mean we are, after all, an emo forum. Why not just cater to what draws people here in the first place. The front page of Luv-emo screams scene.

I dropped a PM Ryan's way, but you never know when he'll be around next. Anyway, he'd need to delegate mod responsibility when policing this section, I can't imagine him being able to resist perma-banning someone who calls Bring Me the Horizon screamo.

i think it sounds good to me too, "MAKE IT SO Mr. SPOCK"

I might do this later. It would be useful to have a category in the emo section that links to the scene section (will be in other), but not sure if that is possible. Isn't obvious from the admin panel anyway. Chris, fancy being mod of the Scene section if we add it?

The issue i have is that not all the bands you listed are the same genre of music
Putting BvB, BMTH, and P!ATD in the same section is not a big improvement over the current situationwhat i would suggest is having a Pop-Punk section inside the punk section, and Having a -core section inside the others section, with possibly including a scene section for bands like Blood on the dance floor or some shit

This is true, but I think organising threads by genre lines is somewhat counter-productive. It would be better, I think, to keep 'scene' bands together, as they attract a similar fanbase, rather than scatter them to the four winds where they are forgotten about. How many newbs would actually go into the punk section in search of discussion? If I were a fourteen-year-old scene kid, I'd be more likely to just start a topic about Black Veil Brides in the 'emo' section than seek out the right one. It's all about countering elitist flame-wars and promoting healthy discussion.

If I might take the possition of a musically-inclined college student with a few years of music theory, as well as basic music psychology, I'd like to add that many bands do try to emulate multiple genre-sounds in effort to come up with something origional, so trying to limit the music section to a few basic genres with a wide range of appeal seems a little rendundant, if you're going to lable them by genre and not fanbase. I agree with the basic idea completely, but the issue is going any further; there are just too many genres of music to include a section for each and every one. I have yet to see a jazz/blues/avant-garde/classic rock/classical section, all of which tend to attract a similar(though destinctly older) fanbase, as well as a lack of a techno/industrail/electronica section, thus keeping any rave-goers away. There's not even a section for drunken slutty party music like Kesha and Rap/Hip-hop(you know the kind I mean, don't even try it).
I realize this is primarily an "emo" site, and has it's responisbilites to keep emo AND scene music fore-front, and that genres like metal, hardcore, punk, and indie are also important to keep separate as popular teenage genres, but let's face it, try getting into a good school for music with such a limited scope of music. To the point, I'm just afraid giving Scene it's own subform, on it's own, is a great idea, but especially with it having it's own mod "just because he suggested it", will cause a wave of genre-form suggestions that all-in-all probably don't even deserve they're own forums because they only matter to the people that listen to them. In my opinion, genres that are more inclusive than exclusive should be the first to gain headway over genres that are only minor developments over already set genres; ie, there's no use describing the 20+ sub-catagories of "punk" when they're all pretty much the same garbage when looked at from a classical music perspective, which in and of itself has 20 different sub-genres nobody knows about because they don't really matter either.

While I would love to see a post-punk and/or New Wave section, it would be pretty much unused. This site is advertised extensively as a 'scene' website, when, in fact, 'scene' bands are hardly discussed in any kind of positive way. To attract and retain new users, it's wise to promote discussion on things they want to talk about.

Bring in the people looking for scene bands and then, hopefully, teach them about other bands, other genres. This, of course, would require older member to not flame every newb. Also, we couldn't just keep moving all the bands to the slander section, the scene band threads would have to be left intact in and the scene section.

As a mod, I'd keep everyone in line, newbs and regulars
We'll sticky some threads about expected etiquette in the Scene section, and maybe we could change the tagline on the 'Emo' section to read 'For discussion on Emotive Hardcore and its derivatives.'

Sorry for the double-post, just spent awhile trawling through the 'Slander' section finding bands that might be better suited to the 'Scene' section.
Dashboard Confessional
Black Veil Brides*
Suicide Silence
Bless The Fall*
Short Stack
Paramore
Attack! Attack!
Tokio Hotel
My Chemical Romance
Hawthorne Heights
Mayday Parade
Silverstein
Atreyu
Forever the Sickest Kids
Weezer
Panic! At the Disco
Avenged Sevenfold
Aiden
Again, some double-ups, and I found at least half a dozen Bring Me the Horizon threads kicking about...

No, they belong in the slander section, except for Weezer who are gods of awesome.
Having said that, if were going to genrefy everything, even the stuff from the slander section, then WHAT IS THE POINT OF HAVING A SLANDER SECTION
The slander section can encompass all genres, any band in the world could be put in there and it would be legit

Oh, so they were originally in other sections and then moved to slander?
I get you, but, seriously, isnt that a bit like imposing on people's freedom of speech or something?
