Since coming here I have fallen in love with this genre. This is a sort of beginners guide to the world of post-emo, the classics that defined the genre back in the '90s. Of course, I've missed some people's favourites, so please contribute!

1.

Sunny Day Real Estate - Diary (1994)

I always thought of Bleed American as JEW's first non-emo record; it sounds so different to Clarity. Spot on with The Get Up Kids and Mineral

The Get Up Kids - Something to Write Home About (1999)

Mineral - The Power of Failing (1997)

Since they're so divisive, let's add...

Mineral - End Serenading (1998)

The Get Up Kids "Four Minute Mile"

I can't believe STWHA was mentioned before this album. Four Minute Mile rapes the fuck out of Something To Write Home About.

also:

Thursday "Waiting"

That album is what got me into good music in general. I still remember hearing it for the first time about 11 years ago and being completely blown away.

I think we can agree that every Get Up Kids, Promise Ring and Sunny Day record kicks ass.

I freakin live this album sooooo much!

I believe that pretty much covers it for Essential post-emo albums. I can think of a few other amazing ones, but not from the original batch of bands

Rites Of Spring?

They were a pretty important band for emo full-stop.

Not sure that I'd call Rites of Spring Post-Emo, more flat-out Emotive Hardcore.

Yeah, i guess so. They influenced post-emo as a genre i reckon, but they aren't part of it, if you get what i mean. A bit like how Black Flag influenced half of the bands under the sun.
