I may get mega-flamed for this, but who gives a shit. Green Day. They fucking OWN live, the atmosphere, the crowd reaction, the sheer quality... fuck yes.

Yonder Mountain String Band is about the most kickass band I have seen live. Mostly because they sound so much better live than on any studio album plus they improvise so much during their sets.
Besides, they usually play for just over and hour, take a short 15 minute break, and then play for another hour. I downloaded a concert I went to and it takes up three CDs. They also tour their asses off.
The other great band was Rev. Peyton's BDB. I guess the fact that they not only acknowledge the crowd but interacted with it help. That concert was crazy. First and only time I have ever heard a cigar box guitar played. Yes, it is a 1X2 board glued to a cardboard cigar box and has three strings. Man that was some crazy shit.

1997, probably one of the best live shows I've ever seen. I've seen them 2 times. you wouldn't expect them to move as much as they do from the music they play
A Plea For Purging used to have a fairly solid set, though with a small line-up change and newer material, they kinda calmed down =\

I love Trash Talk live, they're hands down the most mental thing i've ever seen (except one guy who hung himself from the roof of the tent at download with meat hooks, but i can't remember the name of the band).
Cancer Bats always get the crowd going really well and Liam (singer) once jumped on my head and knocked me out, i woke up on the floor about 30 seconds later.
Dillinger Escape Plan are pretty crazy.
Skindred are funny and just put on a really really fun show.
Every Time I Die is normally pretty cool too, been on stage with them once, along with the majority of the crowd.
Reuben. Favorite band ever, they are funny and just cool.
Rage Against The Machine was pretty damn amazing. Looking back and seeing 80,000 people all jumping up and down in time in a massive field was probably one of the best moments of my life.
They're probably my favorites personally.

Touche Amore. It was so crazy. During Honest Sleep, so many of use were on the stage that I thought we were gonna run into the drum set. It was intense.

Seeing them next month with Pianos Become The Teeth. Hoping for a great show.
Venue is pretty shitty though.

surely it's a conceptual thing, one guy may like a particular band and another might think they are crap!!!!!!!! just saying

Yeah I saw them with PBTT and Seahaven. It was amazing. The venue I saw em at was pretty shitty too, but it didn't matter. It was actually cool cause it was so small.
The smaller, the better. Adobe Homes opened for them when I saw that tour. It was unreal

Yeah, I agree. I saw Empire! Empire! in this garage and there couldn't have been more than 20 people there, but that was awesome because you can talk to the band members and stuff.
A local band called citizen (search citzen hardcore, they have a bandcamp page) opened when I saw TA and PBTT, and they were really good,

I saw 311 when they dropped their Universal Pulse album in Omaha which is there hometown. They played 22 plus songs and talked to everyone after the show and were so energetic. S.A Martinez was all decked out in a silk shirt and pants even though it was like 100+ degrees and humid(kinda like a feverish vagina this day was). They fucking rocked all of our faces off. I've been a convert to them ever since that show. I think thats how you know if a band kicks ass live, if your not really a fan and after the show you walk away totally in love with their music based on the live proformance and not some shit thats been mixed and mastered and heard in a car whilst smoking pot!
