I don't know how geeky people are here or if any of you are into video games, but i am, I'm a gamer and not bothered who knows it.
I'll happily waste and entire day of my life vegetating in front of a half decent game if i have nothing better to do and i'll love every second of it.

Games, for me, are the perfect form of media, i like to think of them as really long films that you get involved in. I'm not a massive fan of movies or tv tbh, i find them boring in comparison to games. A dream of mine is to go to uni to do games design and with a lot of luck maybe one day own my own developing company, which would specialize in epic RPGs. I've even wrote a bit of a game world with quest outlines and even designed a few characters for fun one night (yep, i'm that sad).

Anyway, the reasons i love games so much now-a-days is the complexity, the attention to detail, the amount of time, effort and thought gone into every little piece of a well made game. A couple of recent games that demonstrate what games can be like for me are Bioshock and Fallout 3 (an New Vegas more so). To me they demonstrate the amount of detail and thought that can go into a game.

Games are, undeniably, the biggest growing platform of media over the last few years. No other form of media has grown and adapted anywhere near as much as video games have. Over my lifetime i've been lucky enough to witness the speedy evolution of games. When young i'd play Sonic 2 for hours on end, then, i remember Christmas '97 i got my hands on the N64 with Mario 64 and Goldeneye (2 very important games in my eyes) amongst others. Mario 64 being the first 3D game to hit homes ever, it was a hell of an experience, even my dad joined in, who never really plays games. People who normally would have discarded a games console as a child's toy were actually excited and interested in it.

The same has happened again, with the Wii (although i don't like the Wii as much, way too gimicky), it's brought millions who would normally turn their nose up at games into loving them.

What do you think of games?

We had a video game section, then the place got restructured and it went away. Feels bad man.

Me? I love classic video games so much that I have an NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, Gameboy (colour and advance), N64 (buggy and games don't play right without the controller), and a Playstation 1 emulators. Yeah!

I also have an Xbox that does not read any discs any more. I might be buying a WII but eh? Right now I am all about my DS and Pokemon Heart Gold.

Games are great wastes of time. Too bad that so many are becoming more and more generic. I mean, pretty much all the FPS in the last five years are the same. Boring. Give me an RTS or a long RPG.

I'll probably be posting in here about games a bit then. Strange of a forum not to even have a media section tbh.

Yeah, there's a lot of generic shooters coming out (thanks a bunch Halo and CoD), some of them are worth playing and i do like to have the odd mindless shooter in my collection (i enjoyed both of the Resistance's on PS3), but a lot just seem a bit crappy. They can be cool though, look at Bioshock, that's one of the most original and impressive games i've ever played, the entire world is just crazy and really interesting, and the way they're made even the game play of a shooter stand out was commendable.

I have a Wii, although it gets neglected. I'd be lying if i said it's not fun, and i'd be lying if i said i don't still play it on my own sometimes, i still love a bit of Mario Kart Wii or New Super Smash Bros. But frankly it's a multiplayer console, the best time's i have with it is when i have a bit of a gaming party (srsly), all night long Smash Bros Brawl tourneys are immense fun, even if i always lose.

They're worth buying, but i'd never have one as my main console, not enough long "hardcore" (i hate that word) games that i can burn my eyes out playing. No More Heroes and Mad World were cool, but not long enough for me, and both got sort of easy and tiresome after a while.

Heart Gold is a remake of Gold isn't it? Does it have more pokemon? Because i refuse to play a game with more than 251 pokemon (e.g. after 2nd gen) in it.

Heart Gold is a nice remake of Gold. The graphics, obviously, are better. There are a few new moves. But all in all it is still the same game. Really fun.

For me, I'm old school. 3D killed the video game. I hate 3D fighters, hate 3D platforms, and really dislike FPS. But then again I am old enough to remember when the NES was some new amazing thing that every kid wanted.

I try to embrace new things, but to me the Wii is just a step in the wrong direction for games. I don't think the market needed to lower it's standards in order to attract more people, it was growing just fine as it was.

3D i think is cool, to me it just means game worlds can be much much more immersible. As much as i love the first 2 Fallouts, the iso view is difficult to use after using 1st person.

I think 3D (as in pop out of the screen 3D) could be cool if they don't use it gimmicky and just use it as a graphics upgrade. However, i don't have a 3D tv and probably wont for quite a while.

Until they get true 3D without the glasses it will always be a gimmick.

Some 3D games are okay, I mean, RPGs are great.

Nintendo, instead of trying to beat Sony and Microsoft at their own game, wrote new rules. Now look at the new motion shit that Sony and Microsoft are releasing. Hey, the PS3 and Xbox 360 are now overpriced Wiis. Nintendo has always been about fun games. That's the point, fun. A game can have the best graphics in the world, a great plot, a great story, inventive worlds, but if it sucks to play, it sucks as a game. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is just straight up fun (this coming from a guy that hates 3D platformers). So what if the graphics aren't as slick as on a PS3? It's a fun game.

Oh well.

I don't know. While i don't intend on buying Move (all the games look like crap, predictably) i respect that it is prety cool and a huge improvement over the Wii. And even the Wii has had to admit that it's controllers are slightly shoddy and upgrade to Motion Plus or whatever it's called. Besides, for me, the PS3 still has the best games and it's a hell of a lot more reliable than the 360, no way will i ever pay to use online gaming.

The Wii, to me, was a bit of a "sell out" move, as much as i hate to use that term. They knew they were going to make poor games, but they knew they were going to make a hell of a lot of money from it, and they did.

How can you miss Halo, it's the same as any other shooter, just buy Kill Zone 2 for your brother's PS3 and have done with it.

Move is not the same as the Wii. That's like saying the Wii is the same as Duck Hunt for the NES. The Wii didn't really come up with a radical new idea, just took other's ideas further, which is a good thing. But when someone else takes the Wii's technology further it gets accused of copying it. Interesting.

Kinetic is the dumbest thing i've ever seen. Our technology isn't advanced enough for this to be a good thing.

Fallout: New Vegas = Glitchiest game I've ever played!!! It's so freakin frustrating!! Falling thru the graphics and frequent crashes has made me freakin OCD about saving. I can't sell loot or kill an enemy without saving immediately after! >=[ very disappointing because Fallout 3 was such an amazing experience

I take it you have a 360?
I've heard how bad it can be on there, it's a real shame because i think the game it's self has definitely improved over F3.
I don't know why Microsoft have paid a fuck load of money to secure DLC exclusivity on a console that they game doesn't work properly on, that just doesn't make sense to me. They should have paid for it to be on PC if they really felt they needed it.

It just feels like nobody bothered to beta-test it. And the story isn't as emotionally captivating as Fallout 3 was.

I know what you mean by the testing. The simple bugs in it that are abvious should have been noticed before release, the ones like people walking into walls, and lack of terminals in the NCR building where people are typing is just poor (although rather creepy at times, when someone's typing on an invisible keyboard and they stare at your while smiling, it's fucking freaky).

I don't know about the story, i like it. I think all of the side quests and the general world and all the smaller story lines are really really well written.

well yeah, I agree with you there. the side quests are indeed way better this time around. I don't like not having a set black and white view of morality tho. almost every faction is in the gray. I don't even want to continue playing right now because the quest line I'm on wants me to blow up the brotherhood of steel hideout =[ I likes them
