J-pop/rock

gizme98's Photo gizme98 16 May 2011

I dont see why you should get j-pop/j-rock and all the other types (like k-pop (K for korean)/k-rock) when they should all be part of the same genre (pop/rock?)

True, but Visual Kei is really a style all it's own. Not musically so much, but the fashion side. Besides, it's easier to designate that a band is from Japan. Also, many of the J-pop bands do not enjoy the same level of popularity outside of Japan as they do inside of Japan. In the U.S., for example, J-Pop bands are only really popular with a small group of people.

So basicly The people who are part of the Japanese music scene dont want to be a part of US/UK music?

It's just that it isn't popular in the U.S.

I really want to add something to this discussion:

American pop is shit. It's void of talent, creativity, originality, skill, and technique. American pop is only about image and marketing a brand. Pop from Japan on the other hand is superior to American pop and pop in general on just about every level other than maybe production and of course overall sales. The same goes for mainstream rock. The bullshit on American alternative radio is so dull, and generic I wonder why people still tune in.

Sure there is a lot of fandom surrounding Japanese music within it's niche but I feel it's gets such a devoted following for a good reason; it pushes genre boundaries and continues to travel down it's own path. The rock and pop from Japan are pretty much their own style as they differ so much from the western styled pop and radio rock which seem to dominate each genre.

I like some anime openings and soundtracks but I donīt know the name of the bands. The soundtrack of cowboy bebop is awesome but i wouldn't consider it pop or rock music. I donīt know japanese, but they sometimes sing in english.

Speaking of, does anyone know what the opening and ending songs to Death Note are? Not the first one's, when it reaches like episode 23-37. I'm obsessed with the songs but can't find them.

Aren't they by Maximum the Hormone? I'm not sure the exact titles, but I'm almost certain that's the band.

Maximum the hormone - Zetsubou Billy

Only one I know cos it sparked my interest in the band a while ago. Think it's the 2nd ending song.

Supercell & Livetune use Miku as the voice. In all fairness I prefer Rin & Len's voice from Vocaloid...or maybe I've just heard Miku's voice everywhere. It is Miku's voice which is in the Nyan Cat video.

Anyhoos, JPop bands:
Akeboshi
Furuido
Lia
Kalafina
Rie Fu
Tenmon (Tenmon is a composer, does alot of music for animes. Did the music for 5cm Per Second which was a beautiful movie when combining the storyline, the artwork & the music together.)
